Forth of July is always a fun time here with a community that celebrates like none I have ever experienced. I hope your holiday was spectacular. There are a few dates left to schedule wild flower sessions. Now is the perfect time for your family portrait or to just capture the kids at their summer best. Don’t wait for the busy back to school season to sneak up on you.  It always happens to me.  And I forgot to buy pre boxed school supplies this year so I’ll be the crazy one looking for just the right markers and notebooks in Walmart in August! Arg!!

 

 

Contemporary Lifestyle portraits can be anything right? Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big fan of really good food. (and kids) One name stands out. Zingerman’s. Ever heard of it?  If you have, no doubt you love it. Real love, not just kinda good but unusually unique, really GOOD.  Aaaaaah Zingerman’s. DROOL  This amazing deli and restaurant is nestled in the college town of Ann Arbor Mi.  Not just food.  INC Magazine calls it “the coolest small company in America.”  An amazing success story, brain child of Ari Weinzweig and Paul Saginaw, Zingerman’s is a Utopian example of corporate America. University MBA courses are taught using the philosophy used to establish the Zingerman’s mindset based on authentic food, unusually attentive and caring staff and an environment of American zeal.

Zingerman’s  is always on our ‘must do’ list for any trip to Michigan. This time we took the challenge: go to every Zingerman’s in a 24 hour period of time to get a free t-shirt. We gladly accepted this delicious challenge. Okay we didn’t eat at each, that would be insane but worth a try. There is the Deli, best all out deli ever, not even New York can touch it, ask the New York Times! The Roadhouse, sweet potato french fries are a must also the eggs benedict.  A pair of poached eggs served over slices of Newsom’s Kentucky country ham and grilled sourdough bread. Topped with hollandaise sauce.  DROOL, is there any wonder why I’m not thin?? Then there is the creamery, bakery and coffee house all worth the stop and stay. Have a Zang bar. Their own candy bar.  Don’t freak about the price.   One bite and you will see. Butter roasted peanuts, caramel and peanut butter honey nougat dipped in dark chocolate. Okay, yes I like the not so good for you stuff but there is a delicious world of options at Zingerman’s for vegans, vegetarians and all healthy folks.  Try the sticks and berries, my new fav.  http://www.zingermansdeli.com

We have not let the rain get us down. I found these great umbrellas at the Ace hardware and knew they would be fun to use in a photo.

After a rainy weekend at home I headed to Ann Arbor Mi for a photo shoot in the Arboretum.  Their outrageous peony garden was in full bloom.  We ended up finding several photo op moments and the next few posts will highlight our trip.  The daisies believe it or not were at a truck stop on the highway coming home. I couldn’t help but stop and take photos.

Thanks to all who came out for our spring Open House with our friends at Every Green Plant. The day was dampened by rain but that didn’t stop gardeners from coming by to tour the grounds and gain some free advice.  Our photo sessions were postponed but we still took advantage of the beautiful teal couch in Allison’s front room for a few shots. The gardens are already looking more mature in just a couple weeks since the event. Mother Nature is most amazing. We will have our second Twice as Nice event in the fall featuring mature perennial gardens and a full vegetable garden with raised beds that would make Martha Stewart proud. We will have fall container demonstrations and of course more complimentary mini portrait sessions.  This is a perfect opportunity to have holiday card portraits taken. Stay tuned for details.
