Roeckell Photography bio picture
  • Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my new blog site. Web site...Blog site, what's the difference? Well, think of the website as a portfolio and the blog as a living, breathing, visual conversation about the latest works from Roeckell Photography.

I am a photographer, located in Barrington, Illinois, specializing in contemporary lifestyle and portrait photography of children, babies, newborns, maternity and families. I am also available for commercial work and travel. Much of my work is done on location utilizing the beautiful hues of natural light, however I do have a large studio in my home.

I believe the secret to amazing photos that speak to your heart is allowing the children to be at ease. I let them be themselves in a fun environment were they are free to run, play, snuggle and once in a while stop to pose. My goal is that the images you receive will reveal the true spirit that makes your loved ones unique.

Sit back, relax and enjoy scrolling through the images. Leave a comment! I enjoy seeing what you have to say. Feel free to send me an email or visit me on facebook if you have any questions.

It's great to see you here. Thanks for supporting Roeckell Photography.

six year old fun

At the end of the year my daughters kindergarten class asked me to help come up with a class donation for the school gala to raise money for the school.  After much thought, several studio set ups, clothing changes, belly laughs, more clothing changes and tip over hold on tight fun, this is what we came up with.  It was a big hit.  Printed on a 24×36 canvas gallery wrap it raised more than 3000.00 for the school.  It also created a memory and keepsake these kids will always treasure.

Kristin Merten - Sorry I meant the preschool letter shots :)

Sally Roeckell - The baby shots were done in our hotel lobby. We drew a crowd. The outdoor shots were done at the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor. Thanks for checking it out.

Kristin Merten - Sally I absolutely love this!!! What a fabulous idea!!! Where did you do the shoots?

Class of 2010

I remember thinking 1983 would NEVER come and 2000 was unthinkable. Am I really this old? Only in number! I so enjoy photographing Seniors.  They are amazing people at a time in their life when everything is filled with promise and hope.  Their possibility stretches out in front of them just beckoning them to live fully.  This particular young man will do great things with grace.  He is the boy I hope my daughter will find one day…many years from now. It was my pleasure to capture this time in his life. I will look forward to keeping track of his many accomplishments. Congratulations K!

First Communion

First billing has to go to the little one in the family who was so sweetly watching his sister be the star of the show. Your turn is coming soon buddy!  It was such a pleasure photographing this little first communicant who was as beautiful as a bride. She is welcome to hang out in front of my camera any time. Mom, here is a sneak peak, I can’t wait to get together to preview all the photos soon.

Lisa Thompson - Very nice set of photos, Sally. I’m sure that Mom will be very happy. But what caused me to stop and comment was the last one! Great composition and love the processing!

Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning has prompted me to pull out some of the photos that have cruised by so quickly that they didn’t make it  into my blog. Life goes so fast these days that I sometimes wonder who pressed fast forward. We are enjoying every minute of spring. The smells, the sounds and the feel of the warm sun all have a hand in our elevated moods. Already I am booking appointments for August.  Although this is great it reminds me of how quickly the warm spring and summer days will pass. I hope you enjoy what I am posting here. I’ve been busy with First Communions, babies, Seniors and even corporate head shots.  I have several posts to add in the coming week so visit often.

In prayer.

After a soccer game this tree was a perfect perch for one little player to sit and wait. The dandelions glow in the grass.

My favorite red head sneaks in again!

Who can resist a pug?

Rain made for a fun trip to the puddle in the back yard.  These little ones were totally game to jump right in.

I love the farmers market. You never know what you’ll find there…
